'To Belong to'

“I believe the strongest bond a human being can experience is with nature. When this happens, it means we are also deeply connected to what surrounds us: to others, to ourselves as the highest expression of nature, and to the emotions this connection can awaken.

Since the beginning of my artistic journey, I have been drawn to reflecting on the relationship between humans and nature. Isn’t this, after all, the fundamental theme of our existence? And therefore also the relationship each person has with themselves.

I have always thought that beauty lies in recognition as well: the more associations and similarities we are free to see, the more beauty we perceive. The more we allow ourselves to recognize something of ourselves in what we encounter, the more we enjoy that connection. And connection is beauty—it is emotion.

We are sophisticated animals and, like plants, we are the offspring of a great mother: nature.

Plants are pure, rooted, thriving, productive, respectful, intelligent—just as our own feelings should be.”

With these words, Marcantonio introduces To Belong To, a work that reflects on the deep bond between human beings and nature. The sculpture reminds us how essential it is to feel part of a greater whole, recognizing in nature a guide, a mirror, a home.
