Bruno Catalano: 'The Travelers'

Caorle

Bruno Catalano in Caorle with The Travelers. From April 28 to October 30, 2026

Two monumental sculptures by the renowned Italian-French sculptor Bruno Catalano, one of the leading figures in the contemporary art scene. The two works, titled "Hubert" and "Khadine", are part of the series Les Voyageurs (The Travelers), extraordinary bronze sculptures characterized by the complete absence of the central part of the body and the presence of a suitcase or piece of luggage. In a play on the “unfinished,” almost Michelangelo-like, Catalano’s works lead viewers to lose themselves in the backgrounds chosen for the installations and even to wonder how these figures can stand upright. These are two figures that the artist chose to immortalize, suspended between the ethereal and the material, in the midst of a journey whose origin and destination remain unknown to the observer. The contents of the suitcase are also unknown - filled not only with personal belongings, but with life stories as well.

This initiative is promoted by the Municipal Administration of Caorle in collaboration with Galleria Ravagnan of Venice, which exclusively represents the artist’s works in Italy. “Caorle strengthens its connection with contemporary art thanks to this new initiative, which will bring Bruno Catalano’s works to our city,” explains Deputy Mayor and Councillor for Culture Luca Antelmo. “In the coming months, our cultural offering will be enriched by the sculptures of this internationally renowned artist, giving those who pause to admire them - residents and welcome guests alike - the opportunity to reflect on the meaning of travel, displacement, and the beauty that arises from the grace of imperfection.”

Bruno Catalano has already exhibited his works in major Italian cities such as Venice, Viareggio, Lucca, Amalfi, Genoa, and Alassio, as well as in international metropolises such as London, New York, Paris, and Sydney. The two sculptures will be installed from April to the end of October along Lungomare Petronia, just a few steps from the fountain facing Piazza Vescovado: one of the most evocative locations in the city of Caorle, close to the sea and the Scogliera Viva. Two sculptures that invite reflection on key aspects of human existence: from identity to migration, and travel as an inherent dimension of human life.

Catalano and his work

The Travelers, among the artist’s most representative works, embody a profound sense of beauty and shared culture that transcends geographical and linguistic boundaries. These extraordinary bronze sculptures accompany citizens and visitors on a unique artistic experience that celebrates the sense of wonder and discovery that travel brings. The beauty of these works lies not only in their unmatched technical mastery, but also in their power to connect people and to stimulate reflection on universal themes such as identity, change, and the search for meaning. Through his works, Catalano invites us to explore our personal and collective stories, to engage with the experience of travel, and to recognize the beauty and complexity of the world around us.

“My sculptures carry a story, but they do not tell it,” explains the artist Bruno Catalano. “We do not know where they come from, nor where they are going, but we know they are moving forward, whether departing or arriving. I have created figures I call Travelers, who carry a suitcase and have a part of their body torn away.”
