"Mare Nostrum": Andrea Roggi's sculptures in Liguria. Third stop: Alassio.
A long journey that began on March 27 in Portofino, continued through Genoa on May 7, and now arrives in Alassio on June 6. With the Mare Nostrum project, Andrea Roggi has brought his sculptures along the Ligurian coast, where the dialogue between sea, matter, and light opens a new chapter in an artistic journey that began with Terra Mater. In every location that welcomes the works, the sculptures establish a relationship with both the landscape and the history of the Mediterranean. They become images of a humanity that has always looked to the sea as a point of departure and as a horizon toward which to strive.
The sea embraces the forms cast in bronze, reflecting them upon its surface and placing them in dialogue with light and the surrounding environment. Mare Nostrum is, above all, an invitation to recognize the sea as a shared space – a place that throughout history has connected different peoples and cultures. The sculptures thus become a bridge between humanity and nature, evoking ancient routes and new beginnings.
Thanks to Ligyes 2026, the exhibition project Mare Nostrum creates a symbiosis between art and territory, guiding Andrea Roggi’s sculptures along an ideal route from Eastern to Western Liguria. His works convey meaningful messages that promote life and peace among people. Installed in Alassio’s two most symbolic locations – the Muretto and the Bestoso Pier – the sculptures will be on public display from June 6 to November 30.
The collaboration among local institutions supports this traveling cultural project not only because it amplifies the sea’s significance as a symbol of life, but also because it resonates throughout the Ligurian region, once again affirming its role as a crossroads of beauty, history, future, and above all, art.

L’Amore genera Vita
This bronze sculpture, installed on the Bestoso Pier, belongs to the theme of the Tree of Life, a central element in Andrea Roggi’s artistic vision. The work portrays time as a journey that unites past, present, and future through a symbolic form in which nature and the human figure meet. The roots represent the past: memory, culture, and tradition, from which every individual draws nourishment. The trunk corresponds to the present – the only time in which we can act, choose, and build. Here, the present takes shape through the union of two anthropomorphic figures, symbolizing love as a generative force. The branches and fruits extend toward the future, gathering the values inherited from the past and the energy born in the present. L’Amore genera Vita thus becomes a message of continuity, hope, and renewal: love is the force capable of giving rise to life and guiding the future toward harmony and positivity.
Immagina un Mondo Nuovo
The bronze sculpture positioned in front of the Muretto is composed of human figures holding hands, creating a large, spherical and geometric structure. The work is created using Andrea Roggi’s dynamic casting technique: in certain areas, the figures merge together until they become a single surface characterized by a vibrant, magma-like texture. In this work, Andrea Roggi directs his artistic research toward an ethical and universal message. United in a simple yet powerful gesture, the figures represent a humanity founded on respect, altruism, and an awareness of the value of every individual. The sphere simultaneously recalls the planet and the olive fruit, a symbol of peace, life, and the future. Immagina un Mondo Nuovo thus becomes an invitation to believe in a more humane and virtuous present, capable of generating harmony, new life, and a positive vision of tomorrow.
