Matthias Kostner was born in 1982 and raised in Val Gardena, in the heart of the Dolomites.

His research focuses on the essential nature of the human being, which lies at the very core of his artistic practice. His wooden sculptures draw inspiration from everyday life, elevating each fleeting moment of existence into something sublime. Seated, reclining, floating or in motion, the figures capture the uniqueness of each moment and the essence of the individual, translated into the warmth and solidity of wood.

Passionate about sculpture from an early age, he began creating his first figures in the workshop of his craftsman father. Since then, he has continued to cultivate a deep love for creation, craftsmanship, and an intimate connection with nature - a defining presence of his native land.

The expressive strength and formal, spiritual magic of his works set them apart from the impassive flow of life. Within them resides something eternal: a sense of dignity and quiet strength that inspires renewed confidence and contemplation.
