In his teenage years, the artist began cultivating some of his many interests, including painting and poetry, gradually turning his focus toward sculpture. He spent a short period at the studio of Enzo Scatragli - also a native of Castiglion Fiorentino - further developing his knowledge of sculptural techniques. A decisive artistic turning point came when he visited the Basilica of Santa Maria Novella in Florence, where he was deeply impressed by the powerful plastic effect of The Trinity, the renowned fresco by Renaissance painter and fellow countryman Masaccio.
In 1991, he founded the art workshop La Scultura di Andrea Roggi, where he continues to craft his sculptures from start to finish and, with the help of his assistants, creates large-scale yet finely detailed works. Bronze is his material of choice: through the lost-wax casting process, he masterfully transforms clay models into authentic masterpieces.
In 2017, inspired by the monumental quarries surrounding the town of Pietrasanta, the artist began dedicating himself to the creation of marble artworks.
In the late 1990s, he became the driving force behind the Art for Young movement, aimed at awakening young people’s appreciation for art in all its forms. This initiative later culminated in the creation of the Parco della Creatività, representing its highest expression. Since 2000, Roggi has maintained a fruitful collaboration with the University of Georgia (based in Cortona) and the University of Texas (based in Castiglion Fiorentino), where he conducts workshops and courses on sculptural techniques. In the early 2000s, he also developed a strong intellectual affinity with Pier Francesco Greci, one of Tuscany’s most prominent cultural figures, particularly influenced by his theories on the art of Piero della Francesca.
Roggi has produced numerous public artworks in Italy - primarily in Tuscany and Umbria - as well as abroad. His works are included in prominent collections worldwide, and he has taken part in major national and international exhibitions held at prestigious venues such as Olympia London, Ahoy Rotterdam, the Grand Palais in Paris, the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco, and the Fukuoka Oishi Gallery and Fukuoka City Museum in Japan.
